THE NEST EGG

"THE NEST EGG"
10" x 10"
Oil on Board

I started this painting as a demonstration during a recent event.

I found the nest with the egg outside a restaurant where I had just had lunch. It was just the inspiration for this composition. I'd recently found the bottle in a thrift store and the bird and butterfly motif was perfect with the nest. Sometimes things just seem to fall together!

JA: Thanks for entering my give-away! I'm so glad to discover your blog! Yes! I do paint on wood panels, I buy them from Cheap Joe's... They require gesso etc... but I LOVE them!! THis painting is wonderful. I'm inspired to pick up some more vases for my still lifes! So much to paint, so little time, right? I will be back to see more paintings.

I've been making my own cradled panels but more recently I've just been painting on 1/2" birch plywood gessoed on both sides. I like the surface of board so much better than working on canvas!

I've been following your blog for a while now. I love your still life paintings!

by the way, I find that flea markets and thrift stores are my favorite sources for weird and wonderful things for still life.
